The nine stars and the Luoshu square
Flying star feng shui (Xuan Kong Fei Xing, 玄空飞星) tracks nine stars — the Purple White stars — as they rotate through the nine palaces of the Luoshu magic square. Each star carries a distinct quality: the #1 and #9 stars are the prosperity and future-wealth stars of the current era, while stars such as #2 and #5 are traditionally managed with care. Because the stars move with time, a feng shui chart is never static — it must be calculated for a specific period and facing.

Why time matters
Xuan Kong divides time into nine 20-year periods. We are now in Period 9 (2024–2043), the era of the #9 purple star. A building 'locks in' the star chart of the period it was built (or last extensively renovated) in, which is why the construction year is the first question in any professional audit.

Mountain stars, water stars and the natal chart
A house natal chart (宅命盘) is plotted from the construction period and the exact facing degree on the 24-mountain compass. Each palace then holds three numbers: the base period star, the mountain star (governing health and relationships) and the water star (governing wealth and career). Reading how these stars interact in each sector of the home is the heart of a Flying Star audit.

Why compass precision matters
A difference of a few degrees can flip a chart to an entirely different facing mountain. Standard magnetic feng shui compasses can carry a dangerous ±5 to 10-degree margin of error as they are easily distorted by steel, rebar, electrical currents and electromagnetic fields. Our platform instead computes calibrated magnetic facing from the property's location, true facing from satellite maps and year of completion using scientific geomagnetic field data—the same official model used by surveyors and aviation. This reduces the margin of error to ±1° with 0.1° precision, ensuring that the critical mistake of deriving the wrong natal chart is completely avoided.
